As a member of the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies, which represents organisations like ours in more than 70 countries, we send our support and friendship to the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, our fellow member of the International Federation. The hearts of all those at Arts Council of Wales go out to all those in Ukraine at this time, their loved ones, friends and family.
We send that same support to artists, actors, performers, and those in museums, libraries, and other creative and cultural organisations and institutions who live and work in Ukraine and in all other parts of the world where conflict and oppression are denying people the universal right to a creative and cultural life.
We are united, with our fellow members of the International Federation, in the belief that arts and culture are a public good and has the potential to progress social transformation, that includes everyone, and which can be shaped and accessed equitably by all peoples.
We call for the protection of the rich cultural heritage of Ukraine as well as the work of the nation’s remarkable artists and creative practitioners and echoing UNESCO’s statement on the conflict in Ukraine, we call for respect for international humanitarian law in all its aspects.
We stand with those in the creative and cultural world who are showing solidarity for their colleagues in Ukraine.
