About

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the world’s largest arts festival. It offers the opportunity to develop and present work to diverse audiences and to showcase to UK and international programmers.

It is also an important platform and marketplace to connect and network with creative professionals from across the UK and the world through events, meetings and workshops.

For Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, Arts Council Wales is focussing on support for sector engagement with the well-established UK and international networks attending the Fringe, with a view to increased connections and exploring future showcasing, collaboration and presentation opportunities.

The aim of Edinburgh Bursary 2025 is to connect with and explore UK and international networking opportunities at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. We will be looking to support a combination of emerging and established individuals and organisations.

The Edinburgh Bursary 2025 programme will give you a chance to attend networking and Fringe Connect events, alongside an opportunity to see high quality work.

To maximise impact and value for the Edinburgh Bursary 2025 programme, we will be working with our partners Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, British Council and other UK and international partners to identify relevant networking opportunities.

We anticipate making up to 15 bursaries to individuals and groups.

Who can apply?

You will be a professional producing company or creative professional based and currently developing work in Wales.

With limited bursaries available, we don’t expect to be able to support more than one representative of a producing company.

If your company is a current Arts Council Wales Multi Year Funded organisation and regularly attend Edinburgh Festival Fringe, you can apply for a bursary to support a member of the team who would not usually attend but would benefit from the opportunity.

Please see eligibility guidelines for detailed information.

You won’t be able to apply for funding if you’re in default of any financial agreement with Arts Council of Wales.

What can I apply for?

Individual bursary:

A bursary of up to £1,500 to cover expenses, such as transport, per diems, performance tickets and a contribution towards your time.  Accommodation will be provided as part of the bursary offer.

For those working for an organisation in receipt of Arts Council Wales Multi Year Funding: a bursary of £1,000 to cover expenses, such as transport, per diems and performance tickets. Accommodation will be provided as part of the bursary offer.

or

Group bursary:

We can consider applications on behalf of a small group where there is a clear rationale on the benefit of attending as a group. (Maximum 6 people). This would still be a bursary of £1,500 per person attending but can also include the lead applicant’s administration and coordination time to support the group. Accommodation will be provided as part of the bursary offer.

The lead applicant will be a producing company or creative professional with experience of presenting and networking at Edinburgh Festival Fringe and will be supporting a small cohort of emerging creative professionals with little or no previous experience of participating in the Festival Fringe.

You (and members of the group) must be available to attend between 15 August 2025 to 21 August 2025 to connect with UK and international partner events.

Personal access costs

If you require personal access support to help you attend, we can consider these in addition to the bursary. Please give us an indication of what these costs might be.

What we will provide:
  • informal opportunities to come together as a Welsh delegation
  • access to information about UK and international networking opportunities and events. We will be working with our partners at Fringe Society, British Council, other UK nations, as well as our international network, to bring together opportunities to connect with the UK and international sector at the Fringe.
What we expect from you
  • engagement in Fringe performances, relevant networking opportunities and events.
  • acknowledgement of funding, including online and social media posts whilst at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
  • a short evaluation report after your visit.
