Pembrokeshire County Council wish to commission a lead creative practitioner working in any medium/s to design and deliver a participatory project inspired by three hand embroidered tablecloths dating from 1914, 1923 and 1937 in the Haverfordwest Town Museum. The project forms part of a programme of temporary and event based art, heritage and cultural activity in Pembrokeshire 2024 funded by UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The commission has the key aims of increasing footfall into town centres, contributing to increased sense of pride in place and safeguarding and enhancing heritage.

The three cloths were created by different community and religious groups for public bazaars and fetes in the 20th Century. They were fundraising devices and people attending the fete could pay to sign the cloth in pencil and these signatures were then later embroidered permanently into the cloth. Looking back at these artefacts from our current time-period, the cloths represent a unique ‘snapshot’ of the people who lived, or worked in Haverfordwest in those years. This commission is an opportunity to reflect with the community on those ancestors and their relationship to the town, and to create a new ‘snapshot’ for 2024 in an appropriate medium for today’s culture and sense of identity.

The project must be complete by 15th December 2024.

Quotes and proposals are invited up to a maximum of £15,000 to include all costs.

Deadline 5th July 5 pm. Email spfcultureandarts@pembrokeshire.gov.uk for full brief.
