Experiencing the arts can be inspiring, challenging, engaging, and fun, and has an important part to play in the learning experiences of our young people wherever in Wales, they live.

We believe that all our children and young people should have the chance to be inspired and excited by the best that the expressive arts in Wales have to offer. Whether it’s to ‘have a go’ at something new, develop their creative and artistic skills or to nurture their wellbeing and self-esteem. The dynamic nature of the expressive arts can engage, motivate and encourage learners to develop their skills to the full.

Have a Go is designed to provide learners aged 3 – 16 with opportunities to have a go at a one-off hands-on activity or workshop to support schools with the delivery of the Expressive Arts Area of Learning and Experience. The fund covers the five disciplines of the Expressive Arts Area of Learning and Experience art, dance, drama, film and digital media and music.

The activity can be delivered by either an arts organisation or a creative practitioner and can take place either at school or at a suitable location within Wales. The activity can be during school hours or as an extra-curricular activity. It can be a single session or take place across several days.

The fund offers grants of up to £1,500 and applications can be made by state-maintained schools, pupil referral units and/or arts and cultural organisations in Wales.

There is no deadline for Have a Go, which means you can apply for funding at any time.
