An Exhibition March-May 2024
‘doing a new thing’
playfulness|experimentation|collaboration
What
You are invited to submit work for inclusion in a new exhibition which will open on the weekend of HADAU the inaugural Welsh Arts Festival at Urban Crofters.
Our theme is ‘doing a new thing’ – playfulness, experimentation and collaboration
We are interested in new work that you have created through experimentation and play. Through using a new medium or through collaborating with another artist who is using a different medium to you. For example: photography with painting; video art with sculpture; different combinations of musicians in improvised compositions etc.
Physical work can be any size, 3D or 2D. We will have a number of screens to show performance or screen based work. We are open to all suggestions.
Why
This is an opportunity for creatives to contribute to creating a stimulating and thought provoking exhibition in the Urban Crofters Building through the season of Lent and beyond.
The exhibition will have an opening night celebration and an audience of between 50 and 100 people every day for six days a week over two months.
The exhibition will be widely publicised.
Who
Anyone living in Wales or has a strong connection to Wales is welcome to submit work.
There will be a selection process to curate an exhibition that will both work in the space and stimulate conversations with the audience.
The curators will be:
Prue Thimbleby, artist working in Arts & Health and member of council at Arts Council Wales
Lois Adams, artist working for Cwmpawd (www.cwmpawd.org) and co-founder of Morphe Cymru
Where
Urban Crofters is a church building on Crofts Street in Roath, Cardiff.
The space is home to Urban Crofters Church, Ground Up Café and the West Wall Gallery.
When
There will be an exhibition opening night celebration on the evening of Friday 1st March.
The exhibition will coincide with HADAU the inaugural Welsh Arts Festival at Urban Crofters celebrating creativity and faith in Wales.
The exhibition will be open Monday – Friday 9 – 3 in conjunction with Ground Up Café and every Sunday morning in conjunction with Urban Crofters Church. And possibly Saturday if artists can steward it… (tba).
The exhibition will close on Thursday 9th May.
