Arts Council of Wales Investment Review

The Arts Council of Wales’s Investment Review usually takes place every five years and is the process used to select a group of companies that makeup ‘Arts Portfolio Wales’. Portfolio members receive annual funding for their activities directly from the Arts Council.

On 20 October 2021 we announced that our Council had decided to extend the timetable for its Investment Review Process in order to make sure that we had more time to respond to changes that had been suggested during a series of workshops with the arts sector, and so that the process could be synchronised with the appointment of a new Chief Executive.

With an Interim Chief Executive now in place we will progress the conversations we had with the sector last year starting now and continuing until the late Summer and will publish guidance during the early Autumn.  This will allow an application window opening in early 2023 and a new Portfolio announcement later in 2023.  Some of the timeframes may change depending on the outcomes of our conversations.

Our new funding relationships will begin from 1 April 2024

We will publish more information as it becomes available

For existing Arts Portfolio Wales organisations

As a member of the Portfolio, you are one of our essential partners in helping to deliver the strategic priorities set out in our Corporate Plan 2018-23: For the benefit of all.

On this page you'll find information and documents that are directly relevant to you. If you can't find what you're looking for, please get in touch with us.

It’s tough out there at the moment, particularly for arts organisations. Our Arts Portfolio Wales Resilience Programme lets us work with the Portfolio to future-proof your businesses.

This programme isn’t just about cash. That isn’t, in our view, the most effective way to drive change and ‘future-proof’ organisations. Instead, we take a look at what’s going on in an organisation, and work to find some of the answers together. We might invest some money later, but that isn’t the starting point for the programme. Read more about our Resilience Programme.

The Arts Portfolio Wales Survey

Every six months, we survey all members of the Arts Portfolio Wales. The survey gathers information on the number of arts events run every year and how many people have attended or taken part in the activities. We also compile other statistics (on employment and demographic engagement, for example) which help us to build up a richer picture of the state of the arts in Wales.
