Pioneering XR Arts Centre CULTVR Lab is thrilled to announce its partnership with Fulldome UK, the longest running immersive arts festival in the country. Together, they are bringing FDUK 2023 to Cardiff, marking the festival's debut in Wales. This event promises to be a spectacular celebration of immersive experiences and cutting-edge technologies embracing innovation in the immersive arts.

FDUK 2023 will take place on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th of October and will feature the work of leading fulldome artists and producers from the UK and around the world. This event is a great opportunity to experience fulldome creativity in all its diversity, and to meet and learn from fellow immersive creatives. The festival encompasses a captivating lineup that includes speaker seminars, workshops led by industry leaders, exclusive screenings of the FDUK 2023 shortlisted films, live performances, and much more.

“FDUK 2023 has been supporting artists, creative professionals and researchers working in immersive dome environments for over a decade. We very much look forward to bringing the festival to Wales for the first time connecting with the wider UK  community that contributes to the dynamic future of this rapidly evolving sector.” Ben Stern - Fulldome UK

The Official Selection for 2023 includes 36 immersive films produced in 15 different countries. Additionally, the festival will welcome Canadian artists Allison Moore, Arthur Desmarteaux and Lucy Fandel to present the live performance Cloud Bodies, a real-time AV dance show exploring the body as landscape.

The programme of curated events attracts a diverse and ever growing audience including international delegates, artists, filmmakers, musicians, producers and creatives working in tech.

“When we attended our first FDUK festival back in 2011 we didn’t imagine that we would be playing hosts one day. Since we discovered frameless media we’ve been producing fulldome films and immersive live performances that have toured worldwide. Now with our own arts centre in place we hope to make emerging digital platforms more accessible to all and hosting Fulldome UK hopefully inspires fellow creatives as much as it did to us over a decade ago.” Matt Wright - CULTVR Lab

The festival is organised by producing studios Gaianova (London), 4Pi Productions (Cardiff), United VJs (Brazil), NSC Creative (Leicester), I-Dat and Real Ideas (Plymouth). It is also a founding partner on The Best of Earth Awards, a coalition of some of the most prestigious and respected fulldome film festivals from around the world, including FullDome Festival in Jena, (Germany), Dome Fest West in Los Angeles, (USA), Dome Under Festival in Melbourne, (Australia), SAT Fest in Montréal, (Canada), and IMERSA USA.

The Festival has received funding and support from Welsh Government via Creative Wales.

Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport, Dawn Bowden, said: How exciting it is to support CULTVR Lab and FDUK to bring this innovative arts festival to Wales for the first time. This will be an excellent platform to support artists, creatives and researchers working in immersive tech.

“I encourage people to attend to experience this unique event, discover new ways of enjoying media and hope it will inspire more people to be a part of this new sector. And, of course, we look forward to extending a warm, Welsh welcome to everyone visiting Wales – Croeso!”
