Soprano Elin Pritchard and tenor Huw Ynyr have recorded videos for Made in Wales about the new Welsh opera film Fires of the Moon and what audiences can expect from the only Welsh-language film released in 2025.

Made in Wales has also commissioned performance artist, writer and opera critic James Ellis to write about the film, its literary origins, as well as the history of opera on film.

Premiering in Chapter, Cardiff and Pontio, Bangor on Friday 14 November before releasing across Wales on November 15, Fires of the Moon tells the story of a writer on a melancholy train journey back home. As he travels through the night, memories resurface, forcing him to reflect on events that occurred thirty years earlier.

Inspired by scenes from the classic of Welsh literature, Un Nos Ola Leuad, with a hauntingly beautiful score performed by the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, this Welsh-language opera film is a genre-bending exploration of grief, memory, mental illness and the power of artistic creation.

Fires of the Moon was filmed entirely in Wales, including at Dragon Studios and Great Point Seren Studios, and on location in Bethesda, Llangollen and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

It was supported by S4C and Welsh Government via Creative Wales.
