About this role
We are recruiting for the post of Head of Communications to play a leading role in promoting an accurate, positive, and informed view of the Arts Council, and of the activity we support. The Head of Communications ensures that we promote our work in a single consistent voice, in a manner that is arresting, engaging and accessible.
The Head leads a team of Communication specialists who together develop print and electronic material – in Welsh and English – that reflects the Arts Council’s values, ambitions and identity. A key goal for the team is to promote the arts in innovative ways to reach a new and broader audience. The Head also coordinates the delivery of promotional campaigns and events that raise the profile of the arts and the Arts Council itself.
About you
You have a relevant qualification and/or substantial professional experience of working within a communications environment and have experience in formulating and implementing communication strategies. You will possess the personal authority to operate credibly at high level in public affairs for a national public body, and the flexibility to work effectively as a member of a team.
Welsh language
We work in both English and Welsh. Excellent spoken and written communication skills and the ability to confidently converse both written and orally in Welsh and English – to maintain effective relationships at senior levels both internally and externally – are essential for this post.
How to apply
Please submit the Application Form and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Monitoring Form in Word format to HR@arts.wales. If you would like to submit your application in an alternative format, such as voice note, video or British Sign Language video, please contact us first.

Our benefits include flexible working hours/pattern, generous holidays and a final salary pension.
The Arts Council of Wales is an inclusive employer, and we wish to reflect the diverse communities we serve. Applications from culturally and ethnically diverse people and underrepresented groups are encouraged and warmly welcomed. Applications are welcomed in Welsh or English and we will correspond with you in your language of choice. Applications submitted in Welsh will be treated no less favourably than applications submitted in English. We aim to take positive steps to ensure that all candidates are selected for jobs solely on their suitability for the role.
The Arts Council will provide support to ensure that you feel comfortable joining the organisation, the type of which may be new or unfamiliar to you, so that you can feel your best self at work. Mentoring or training will also be provided during the induction period, if required.
