The latest book from Professor Corinne Fowler is Our Island Stories.  Through ten walks, taken throughout Britain, she connects the countryside with our colonial history.   Linking the Cotswolds with Calcutta in India, Grasmere in the Lake District with Canton, China.    And there is a Welsh ramble – The Wool Walk – which explains how the sheep trade of Dolgellau influenced the development of the colony of Virginia in the Americas.

In 2020 she co-authored a report that was a full audit of National Trust properties and their links with the British Empire, including the Slave Trade.   For doing this some accuse her of being ‘unpatriotic’ and ‘at war with the past’.    In response she argues that “knowledge is not something to be weaponised, but to be shared”.
