Learners had the opportunity to hear from a variety of different authors, ask them questions and have their books signed.

During ‘In conversation’ sessions, authors discussed their work and what inspires them to write. They also described the publishing process. Some authors reinforced important messages about growth mindset, emphasizing the need to persevere and not be defeated by initial rejections

Back in the classroom, learners completed activities such as creative writing tasks and continued to explore their love of reading.

Teachers identified that the experience added tremendous value to each child's understanding of the world of literature. It highlighted to students the enjoyment reading can bring and what a career as an author may involve.

It was an incredible experience for our learners. They were able to explore their love of books and meet some fantastic role-models.

I am going to write more now because writing can be cool

Learner, Year 5

Authors are just like us but they have written down all of their good story ideas.

Learner, Year 6

It has been a day of awe and wonder, to see the expressions on the children's faces, and then to see them 'getting stuck into a book!'

I really enjoyed going to the Hay Festival. I found it really interesting to find out about the different authors and their inspiration books. I found it interesting how different aspects of their own lives are put into their books and the amount of effort that goes into creating them. I found it very inspiring to read more and I would like to go back. I loved the variety of books at the festival shop and the number of different genres for different readers is amazing
