Gwen Yr Arth Wen will be touring to small theatres, community centres and libraries during Spring 2026. We are seeking a freelance Stage Manager to work on the show during rehearsals and take it out on tour.
Gwen Yr Arth Wen - written by Chris Harris and Directed by Elan Isaac is a one person show for children 6+ and their families to enjoy through the medium of Welsh.
Gwen, an anxious polar bear, wakes up on a broken icecap hundreds of miles away from her family. On her perilous journey through the arctic sea, she will have to find her courage, as well as her way home. A visual and thought-provoking performance for young audiences and their families on climate change and home.
We are looking for someone who
- Has experience touring small scale productions into a variety of venues
- Is confident setting up simple LX and Sound equipment
- Can drive a small van
- Has experience working in a small production team
- Is confident solving problems that might occur when transferring a show into venues of different sizes and with different facilities
- Is interested in making work for children and their families
- Can speak Welsh - this is not essential but is desirable
The duties of the Stage Manager will be to:
- Attend and document rehearsals
- Support the Director and Performer during rehearsals with timekeeping, blocking notes, making the prompt copy and other usual Stage Management duties.
- Assist LX and Sound Designers with set up for technical rehearsals at the Riverfront
- Operate the show (simple sound and LX cues)
- In collaboration with the Producer liaise with venues pre tour about technical requirements
- Drive the van on tour (no touring venue will be more than 90 mins from Cardiff)
- Lead the get in at each venue (get in supported by the performer and venue staff)
- Lead the get out and van loading (Get out supported by the performer and venue staff)
- Provide rehearsal and show reports to the wider creative team
Dates
Rehearsals Start 26th of January at the Riverfront in Newport
Touring Dates 14th - 22nd of Feb and 23rd - 12th of April
There will be no overnight stays on tour
Fees
£650 a week
