Applications are now open for Volcano's third series of freelance artist commissions.
The company is looking once again to commission six performers, over a fortnight each, to make individual short performances in one of the spaces at their Swansea High Street venue.
The idea behind this initiative is to encourage performers to develop new performance modes in front of small, enthusiastic audiences.
Work created under the programme so far has investigated subjects as diverse as the future of Welsh-speaking coastal communities, the possibilities of pleasurable consumption on a finite planet, and the impact of robotisation on humans, and has gone on to perform at the National Eisteddfod, Vault Festival, Camden People’s Theatre, The Torch and Dance House Cardiff and beyond.
Rhiannon Mair’s Ar Lan y Môr from 2022 is appearing at the Miner’s Theatre in Ammanford this week, and Ruth Berkoff’s 2023 piece The Beauty of Being Herd is currently touring in northern England.
