Opportunity
Swansea Council is seeking the services of a suitably qualified public art consultant or agency with extensive experience of creating public art strategies to produce a public art strategy for SA1 Swansea Waterfront.
The commission and strategy is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund; there is a phase 2 implementation budget available, to include additional fees and commission budgets, via Section 106 monies subject to contract extension.
Background
Swansea’s city-centre is undergoing substantial redevelopment, generating new opportunities for arts interventions. We wish to see artists positively engaged in defining our sense of place, shaping the future perception of the city, and improving the economic, social and cultural life of the urban centre.
Aim of the consultancy
To produce a public art strategy for SA1 Swansea Waterfront that adds significant value to the public realm through achieving the following objectives:
- Improve SA1 Swansea Waterfront and its attractiveness for communities who live and work in the area as well as encouraging new visitors.
- Create a vision and framework for commissioning a series of permanent and/or temporary artworks, creative interventions, events and installations that reflect the unique qualities and opportunities afforded by the site.
- Create a distinctive sense of place by drawing out and enhancing the existing qualities of the locale such as the built and natural environment, and heritage.
- Form a link between SA1 Swansea Waterfront and Swansea city centre.
- Foster civic pride and confidence and enhance public profile by establishing a reputation for distinctive and high-quality art in the public realm that sets a benchmark locally, nationally and internationally.
- Set out a model of good practice for the strategic development and implementation of contemporary public art projects in Swansea.
