As well as staging three full scale repertory seasons per year, the WNO Technical Department supports a range of youth, community and development events. As Operations & Events Technician you will focus on supporting these activities. You will be based in Cardiff at the Wales Millennium Centre (our rehearsal and performance home). You will travel to other locations around Wales and beyond from time to time.

You will be an allrounder, comfortable with working independently or in joining a larger team for bigger projects. You will enjoy a wide variety of work. A typical week might include some hands-on technical support for a concert in the Weston Studio, the collection of props for rehearsals, some equipment maintenance and attendance meetings to discuss future projects.

This will initially be a one year fixed term contract but this may be extended subject to funding.

What will be required of you?

  • To work closely with the Programmes & Engagement (P&E) Department and other WNO Event Producers to provide technical and logistical support for events and activities in a range of spaces including external venues.
  • Provide effective and efficient technical presentation of concerts, rehearsals, talks, workshops, events, digital projects and smaller scale productions and events.
  • Practical tasks to include all technical aspects of smaller scale events including get-ins, fit-ups, lighting/sound/AV operation and get-outs.
  • Drive WNO and hired vehicles up to 3.5T (standard B Licence) in support of events and projects as required.
  • Lead on In Service Inspection of P&E and Tech Office Electrical Equipment inc PAT Testing as necessary.

 

What you will need to have?

  • Basic practical skills, knowledge and experience of all elements of live event support.
  • In depth practical skills in one or more of the following: stagecraft, lighting, sound, AV, PAT Testing, and the safe loading of vehicles.
  • The ability to follow method statements including the use of ground and stage plans.
  • A working knowledge of current Health & Safety practice relevant to the role.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to gather and appropriately distribute information about events & projects.
  • Full, current UK driving licence (Category B).

£29,610 pa (WNO BECTU House Agreement Grade 3.1)

 

Hours of Work

Annualised Hours based on 44 hours per week average.

 

Travel & Subsistence

This role is not covered by the UK Theatre Agreement on Touring Allowances for Opera & Ballet. Travel and subsistence expenses when away from base will be re-imbursed in line with the WNO Expenses Policy.

 

Annual Leave

Colleagues are entitled to 25 days annual leave (pro-rata for fixed term contracts) each full holiday leave year which runs from 1st September to 31 August. Bank and public holidays are in addition to this. After 5 years, your holiday will increase to 28 days.
