Survey Introduction

We need your help in deciding what’s important to the people of Wales when it comes to arts activity across Wales.  We believe that everyone should be able to access the arts and your opinions count in getting our funding and support to the right places.

The Arts Council of Wales is the country’s official public body for funding and developing the arts. Every day, people across Wales are enjoying and taking part in the arts.

We help to support and grow this activity. We do this by using the public funds that are made available to us by the Welsh Government and by distributing the money we receive as a “good cause” from the National Lottery.

By managing and investing this money in creative activity of all kinds, we contribute to people’s quality of life and to the cultural, social and economic wellbeing of Wales.

We’d like to hear your views on how we use our funding. Every 5 years we review our Arts Portfolio. (The Portfolio is the name we give to the group of the main organisations that receive our funding – those that receive yearly grants towards their core costs and activities.  In 2021/22 we awarded around £27m to these organisations.

Portfolio organisations come in all shapes and sizes from internationally important companies, theatres, arts centres and galleries to more locally based organisations working with community groups.  Each has a different funding ‘profile’.  Some raise a significant amount of money through selling tickets, others are more community focused providing activities to people who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to enjoy or take part in the arts.

We want the Portfolio to reflect the needs of the population of Wales and as part of this we want to make the arts central to the life and well-being of the nation. So, your view is important to us even if you don’t currently attend or take part in arts events!

If that’s the case, we hope we can change that as your views will help influence our funding decisions.

The short survey should only take 10 minutes to complete.
