Newport, get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Welsh language and culture at the fifth annual Gŵyl Newydd festival!

On Saturday September 30th 2023, the festival returns to the Riverfront Theatre at the heart of the city for what promises to be another exciting feast for the senses.

From captivating live performances by talented local young artists to workshops and interactive activities, Gŵyl Newydd offers something for everyone.

Discover the beauty of the Welsh language and culture through music, art, talks, activities and language learning opportunities.

Starting at 11am, the event will have six distinct zones, each with a different focus throughout the day; from performances from local schools to young persons’ entertainers, family activities and informative talks from guest speakers.

This year, for the first time in the festival’s history, all schools in the city have been invited to perform at the event. Welsh and English medium schools from across Newport and neighbouring areas will perform in Welsh on the main stage in order to showcase their Welsh language talents and skills.

Dafydd Henry, the Chief Officer at Menter Iaith Casnewydd said, “The festival has been running in the city since 2018, and I’m delighted that we are able to run it again for a fifth successive year. With a full programme of events and activities taking place, this year’s festival is bigger and better than ever before and there will be lots of opportunities for learners, speakers, and anyone who is simply curious to interact with the Welsh language and culture in our city”.
