About People Speak Up
People Speak Up (PSU) is a social, arts, health, mental-health, and well-being community organisation that connects people and creates healthier and resilient communities through storytelling, spoken word, creative writing, volunteering, training, and participatory arts.
We are a registered charity (1193117) based at the Ffwrnes Fach, Llanelli’s Arts, Health and Well-being Hub in Llanelli town centre and working across South Wales.
We are funded by the Arts Council of Wales, trusts and foundations and through commissions by health boards and local authorities.
People Speak Up was founded by Artistic and Business Director Eleanor Shaw in 2017 and is growing rapidly so we are expanding the team with the introduction of this new position for a fixed term in line with our confirmed funding.

The role
At the moment the staff team share the responsibility of the promotion of activities. They capture photographs and feedback from participants and share them, along with promotion of future events, to our social media platforms.
Our administrator keeps the website up to date, collates the information for our seasonal brochure and designs leaflets. We employ companies to create films about our projects and work with a media consultant to write press releases and copy in Welsh.
We are looking for someone to develop, lead and implement a marketing and communications strategy for People Speak Up.
You will work with us to identify new avenues to reach potential participants and find engaging and imaginative ways to help us to raise the profile of our work.
We would like you to work with our team to create a social media plan that celebrates our activities, promotes opportunities to get involved and recognises the support of our funders, stakeholders and partners.
You will help us to promote our status as a charity and ways to support us as volunteers and ambassadors for our work as well as financially.
We work with communities who have access requirements and speak lots of different languages, so you’ll be sensitive to ensuring communication is accessible and inclusive.
You will lead press campaigns, writing press releases or work with our media consultant to write them.
We are open to you working from home or at People Speak Up for 1 day a week or 7.5 hours split across a week.
Occasional visits to see People Speak Up activities in action would be valuable for you to get a good understanding of the organisation, so you need to be located in South Wales and able to travel to Llanelli.
About you
You will be passionate about arts and health and working with the local community.
You will have at least 2 years of experience in the design and delivery of marketing strategies for community arts projects or a similar field.
You will have experience writing press releases and have local press and media contacts.
We work primarily through storytelling so knowledge in this area is desirable, and interest is essential.
The ability to plan well, be organised, work well independently, and communicate well with others is essential.
We are striving to become a bilingual company and support the Welsh Government’s target of a million Welsh speakers by 2050. The ability to speak and write basic Welsh would be desirable. Being actively engaged in improving your Welsh is essential.
If you are a fluent Welsh speaker and able to write copy and press releases in Welsh and English, even better.
You will have a suitable space and equipment to work from home or at People Speak Up’s base in Llanelli.
