The BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales occupies a special role as both a BBC broadcast orchestra and the national symphony orchestra of Wales. The Orchestra is generously supported by the Arts Council of Wales and is proud to work with an outstanding group of conductors.

As one of the six BBC Orchestras and Choirs, the Orchestra has a busy schedule of recordings, broadcasts and concerts for BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru, BBC Films and BBC television.

Education and Learning is also at the heart of our work, developing innovative projects to increase accessibility to classical music and engaging with communities across Wales.

This role sits within the Artistic and Learning Team of the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, reporting to the Head of Artistic Programming and Production of the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales.

With a combination of music learning expertise, extensive project management experience and fine-tuned interpersonal skills, the post holder will focus on the creation, management and delivery of BBC National Chorus of Wales live and digital activity and BBC National Orchestra of Wales learning activity, connecting BBC NOW with a diverse range of people and partners.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Head of Artistic Programming and production in planning and executing the programme of the BBC National Chorus of Wales
  • Working closely with the chorus master
  • Work with the Director, Head of Artistic Programming and Production and other Learning staff to plan an annual programme of learning work for BBC NOW according to agreed strategic aims and objectives.
  • Work in collaboration with the other BBC NOW Producers in devising a coherent, distinct and above all artistically excellent programme of activity that engages as wide a range of audiences as appropriate both in live and digital content and resources.
  • Plan and lead the learning and outreach programme for assigned portfolios of the BBC NOW learning work including talent development / professional pathways, Early Years, Families including the management of key programmes such as BBC National Chorus of Wales and Composition Wales.

Job Requirements - essential

  • Substantial relevant experience in orchestra or chorus or closely related arts environment.
  • An in-depth understanding of music in Wales and a strong commitment to music education and engagement.
  • Creativity and vision to devise and deliver new and innovative work and a clear passion and commitment to engaging people with orchestral and choral music.
  • Project Management skills and experience preferably both live and digital.
  • Knowledge of the formal education sector
  • Demonstrable experience or knowledge of action that can be taken to increase inclusivity and diversity of an organisation.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations; Child Welfare Acts and all matters relating to working with children.
  • Experience of working with and inspiring professional musicians, understanding their needs and the environment in which they are employed within the UK.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of digital content production including online and filmed resources and projects.
