Call-out for a Creative Practitioner
St Peter’s Church in Wales Primary School
Location – Chapel Lane, Rossett, Wrexham LL12 0EE
The Project:
We have an amazing opportunity to work as part of the ‘Lead Creative Schools’ scheme through the Arts Council of Wales.
This is our second year in the scheme, and we are looking for inspiring, innovative, and original creative practitioner / practitioners to work, this time, with two classes from Progression Step 2 (ages 5 – 7).
We are asking the question ‘Can a creative approach help learners to develop and understand their Welsh connections and place within our local and wider community?’
The aim is to successfully design a project as a team - between teachers, pupils, and creative practitioner(s) - that will support the learning of the spring term topic: ‘Our wonderful world and what really matters.’ This project will explore new ways for our staff and pupils to rejoice in our natural environment and our Welsh heritage.
We will be marbling the project throughout all of the AOLE subject areas and hope that this approach will see our learners develop their ability to explore and investigate vital skills such as independence, co-operation and collaboration.
The project’s journey could include any of the following elements: musical composition and dance, working with natural materials and arts in nature, sculpture, mosaic and ceramic tilework, and working with recycled materials.
We would also love to be able to offer our elderly residents the opportunity to join in with some aspects of the project.
The main sessions will be delivered in English, but we welcome and want to celebrate the Welsh language.
We are looking for:
Practitioner(s) who are confident when working with children, staff, and community members. We welcome practitioner(s) who will support, inspire, facilitate and enable our pupils evolving creative ideas.
Practitioner(s) need to be brilliant collaborators, flexible in their working approach, and able to reflect upon, adapt and build upon pupil ideas in this journey.
What we offer:
10 days delivery (TBC), plus approximately 3 days for planning and evaluation. If two practitioners are appointed, this time will be divided between them.
Standard day rate of £300 per day.
Reasonable expenses for travel and resource, to be negotiated.
Successful candidate(s) will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check or provide evidence of an up-to-date DBS through the update service.
Practitioner(s) must be available on:
Monday 27th November for interview, to include delivering a short session to our class coordinators at the school. Interviews will, preferably, be held in person but if necessary could be accommodated using ‘Microsoft Teams’.
Friday 1st December, when the successful, practitioner(s) will meet the children and planning will take place.
Practitioners must be ‘Lead Creative Schools’ trained or able to complete this training before the project starts. Training takes place on 14th November 2023 and 10th January 2024.
Our project is due to start 9th January 2024 and will run until 22nd March 2024
