In an exciting new partnership between artists and library services across South and Mid Wales, a bilingual show for early years children and their families will now be touring extensively until July 2025.

Mali a’r Môr / Mali and the Sea has been created by Tamar Williams and Naomi Doyle and is based on the much-loved Molly books by Malachy Doyle and Andrew Whitson. The show is performed in Welsh and English, through song, story, and puppetry, and is suitable for ages 3+, with younger siblings welcome too.

“Mewn a mas, mewn a mas”: the sea brings things, the sea takes things away. Mali knows this. Her beloved island home is full of treasures tossed up on the tide. Every day, Mali, with her little doll Megan by her side, watches and waits for Dada’s fishing boat to come home. But one day, the sea turns stormy, and Dada’s boat doesn’t appear. Can Mali and Megan find a way of bringing him home?

In partnership with five local library services, the show embarks on an ambitious 54-performance tour this week, kicking off as part of the Bridgend Children’s Literature Festival with Awen Cultural Trust. The show will provide the smallest of spectators with their first experience of theatre in a familiar location and encourage families whose children are learning Welsh to explore the language together in an engaging and interactive performance.

The tour will be visiting Bridgend County in February and March, Monmouthshire in April and May, Torfaen in May and June, Powys in June and July and Vale of Glamorgan in July. A full list of the tour dates can be found here:
