About Creative Steps

Creative Steps is an Arts Council of Wales fund that is centred on supporting artists that identify as being ethnically and culturally diverse, deaf, disabled or neurodivergent, and arts organisations that are led by people that identify as being ethnically and culturally diverse, deaf, disabled or neurodivergent.

This fund focuses on these particular groups because research, both internally and externally, tells us that we are not engaging enough with individuals from these backgrounds. It also tells us that individuals from these backgrounds and lived experiences have not been able to access our funding easily and have faced barriers and/or discrimination.

Creative Steps for Individuals offers artists between £500-£7,500 to support them with their personal development.

Creative Steps for Organisations supports arts organisation at three different funding levels to support their organisational and business development:

  • Early-stage/Exploratory Phase (£500-£10,000)
  • Second Stage/Testing & Development Phase (£10,001-£50,000)
  • Third Stage/Development of a Sustainable Business Model (£50,001-£75,000).
