Many arts venues across Wales have had their doors closed and their lights off these past few months – and some have been concentrating instead on offering on-line or virtual participatory activity. However, following the recent easing of Welsh Government Covid restrictions audiences can now start visiting and supporting galleries and arts venues once again.
Arts venues preparing to reopen are invited to use the #celfaragor or #artsareopen hashtags – already in use by the Arts Council of Wales – to draw attention to their plans.
Commenting today, Arts Council of Wales Chief Executive, Nick Capaldi said:
“Galleries, Contemporary Arts Venues, theatres and arts centre across Wales are either open or preparing to reopen. They’re working hard to welcome the public in ways that stick to current government guidelines and create Covid safe spaces. However, there are already opportunities to see new exhibitions as well as to support Welsh makers and artists through their retail spaces and Collectorplan.”
While Wales continues to have restrictions at present, theatres can now put on events if they can safely social distance their audience. The Welsh Government has recently updated the FAQ section on its website with a dedicated section for arts and events. This should provide some clarity on how arts venues can operate. Advice or clarification on specific circumstances should be sought directly from the Welsh Government.
Many organisations across Wales have been supported through two rounds of the Government’s emergency Cultural Recovery Fund and making plans to reopen safely. Further details of those receiving support in the most recent round of the Cultural Recovery Fund will be published during the coming days.
