Arts Council of Wales wishes all the artists and the participating teams every success with their presentations at the 59th Venice Biennale (23 April to 27 November 2022).
Wales has successfully exhibited at this International Art Exhibition nine times since 2003. However, in 2022 we will pause our participation and will be using this time to rethink our approach to the Biennale and what it means to Wales.
Working internationally is important to us, and to the visual arts in Wales, and we remain focused on our ambitions and to be connected to local and global audiences. But we need to ask some questions about working internationally, about responding to the climate emergency, and to our commitment to widening engagement.
To do this, Cymru Fenis 10, a new programme of opportunities will be announced in May for the visual arts in Wales to explore these ideas, to create new art, and to support the development and growth of our visual artists. Cymru Fenis 10 will be a different way of marking our 10th edition and aims to make bold steps forward in 2022 and beyond.
