As a member of SMT, a class teacher and leader of Enquiry Based Topic Curriculum, Leader of Expressive Arts & Leader of Eco Schools Sarah Taylor was keen to take part in the Creative Leadership programme to allow for further personal and professional development. Her aim was to develop her personal knowledge of the creative curriculum and in so doing, disseminate good practice to staff at school to ensure strategic leadership, implementation and monitoring of a creative curriculum.
Her initial two days of training, followed by mentoring conversations and support from her creative agent allowed for opportunities to explore and trail new ways of working at class based level and whole school level to initiate change in light of the new ways of teaching in learning in readiness for the new curriculum of Wales.
Sarah led staff INSET meetings to disseminate research and instigate change with a focus on the development of the new curriculum in the school.
Working alongside a mentor allowed for professional growth and a critical colleague who provided valuable ideas and mentorship in discussing together how they could move the school forward in readiness for the new curriculum of Wales - the expertise of a mentor supported the schools next steps and journey in developing exciting, innovative way of teaching and learning, in light of the new curriculum of Wales.
I have started my own professional journal, allowing myself time and space for reflection – this has really impacted on how I deal with different situations and context, learning from my journey... (I have) grown in confidence as I’m new to leading whole school initiatives and developments... I have been able to further develop our feel of ‘community’ within our school and how we are working on and talking risks with our curriculum together.
