Thursday 27 July Mid Wales Arts Centre, Caersws hosted a fantastic evening of Welsh and Columbian music which ended with the captivated audience dancing the night away!
Welsh musicians, Catrin O’Neill, Jonathan Davies and Liam Rickard started the evening with beautifully performed folk music, seamlessly sung bilingually, and with humorous, thought-provoking lyrics to some of the songs by Rickard that highlighted the climate change agenda. O’Neill’s enchanting voice and ability to tell a story,
transported the audience to places past and present, that really set her aside from other folk singers.
The lead band, La Tropa Son, presently touring Wales, beautifully performed a range of Colombian music originating from the high Andes mountains to the sultry low-lying Caribbean coast that transported the audience to sunnier climes. The band skilfully played the tiple, tiple requinto, guitar, guacharaca and caja vallenata highlighting their mastery of the instruments and engaging the audience totally.
The evening provided a rich blend and cultural exchange that the audience greatly appreciated. The concert was held in the gallery surrounded by The Welsh Group - How Green Is Our Art? exhibition currently on in our galleries until 3 September.
“A fantastic evening of music”, “very enjoyable”, “great to hear live music, here in Mid Wales”
