This August The Riverfront is thrilled to be bringing fantastic entertainment to families across Newport in the form of four wonderful theatre shows which are perfect for all ages.

The creators behind the international smash hit Dinosaur World Live, which came to Newport last October half term, are back with a brand-new spell-binding adventure, Dragons and Mythical Beasts.

Enter a magical world of myths and legends in this fantastical Olivier Award-nominated show for all the family. Unveil a myriad of dark secrets and come face to face with some of the most magnificent monsters and terrifying beasts ever to walk the earth. Discover the colossal Stone Troll, the mysterious Indrik and Japanese Baku; the Tooth Fairy (not as sweet as you'd think), an adorable Unicorn and majestic Griffin. From Tuesday 15 until Thursday 17 August, you will get the opportunity to take your place among legendary heroes, just don't wake the Dragon…

Families with young children won’t want to miss Sarah and Duck as the BAFTA award-winning CBeebies show, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, is brought to life with puppetry, storytelling and music.

Join Sarah and her best friend Duck on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 August as they plan the ultimate circus soiree to help Scarf Lady celebrate her birthday. With entertainment lined up from a whole host of your favourite friends, including The Ribbon Sisters, The Shallots, Flamingo & John and Umbrella, the party is ready to go! Let’s just hope the weather holds out…

Originally due to take place earlier this year and rescheduled for the King’s coronation, The Animal Guyz finally bring their show Animals Unleashed to Newport on Monday 21 August.

In a show suitable for all ages, including the teenage members of the family, Animals Unleashed will see the stage bursting into life right before your eyes with this brand-new funny, entertaining and educational 1-hour show.

The show will be packed with animal effects, music and laughter, designed to both entertain and educate using stunning puppetry and special effects to bring incredible life-like and sized animals and dinosaurs to the stage right before your eyes. Prepare to experience dinosaurs from the past, elephants from Africa, saltwater crocodiles from Australia and the incredible orangutans from Indonesia to name but a few all making their way out onto the stage as part of some incredibly moving moments.

Our final family show Sleeping Beauty – a Super Sheep Adventure comes from the award-winning Ripley Company and is a madcap retelling of a beloved tale. Full of music, mayhem and madness, the colourful characters invite you on a journey filled with fun, frolics and a few trips through time.

In a time before alarm clocks, a young baby princess is cursed by a resentful male fairy. Only her three best friends – a fairy, a sheep and a pig called Wizzy – can save her. Throw in some Super Sheep, a dash of time travel, and several toe-tapping musical numbers by celebrated Williams & Ross and the result is an hour of musical mayhem and adventure that will send you home bleating for more!

The brainchild of Lesley Ross & James Williams, the beloved Super Sheep Adventure series has been performed all over the UK for the past twenty-four years, with seven different shows that each tell a part of the Super Sheep story.

The Sheep shows are also being adapted and turned into audio musical theatre books featuring a host of names from both television and the stage, including several Olivier Award winners and nominees. Four of the seven shows are now available to listen to via all major streaming services narrated by Louise Jameson (Doctor Who, Emmerdale), Tony Maudsley (Benidorm, Coronation Street), Mark Bonnar (Shetland, Line of Duty) and, in the case of Sleeping Beauty, Colin Salmon (Eastenders, the James Bond franchise).

If this wasn’t enough family entertainment, The Riverfront Cinema is also screening family films throughout August with cinema tickets starting at only £3.50. Upcoming films include Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Elemental, Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken, Disney’s Cinderella and smash hit billion-dollar film Barbie!
