After an open call out earlier in the year, Articulture is delighted to present the Wales based artists successful in securing a Four Nations Outdoor Arts Commission for 2024.
The commissions are an artist development opportunity which supports the creation and touring of new work for the outdoors.
North Wales based circus artists Daisy Williams and Paula Renzel present Wattle&Daub, two beautician babes on a mission to embellish just about anyone they can get their hands on. They are wanna-be dodgy dealers with a big heart, loveable bad crooks. With an absurd take on today’s beauty industry, the pair will waltz around offering unsuspecting ‘volunteers’ a short escape from reality in their makeshift roadside salon, from which they sell their dodgy wares.
Cardiff based multi-disciplinary designer Harry Pizzey presents the Museum of Memorable Trees. Let the curator guide you through the exhibits as you listen to evocative tales of trees that have woven themselves in to peoples lives and memories. Be transported to a different time and place as you discover beautifully crafted moving dioramas that illustrate these arboreal stories. There is still lots of space for new entries to the museum, is there a tree that you can contribute?
Articulture is looking forward to working with Daisy, Paula and Harry on the development of their new shows which will tour to four festivals in the UK and Ireland in summer 2024:
Green Man, Wales (in partnership with Articulture)
bd: Festival, Bradford (in partnership with Outdoor Arts UK)
Spraoi, Ireland (in partnership with ISACS)
Surge Festival, Scotland (in partnership with Articulation)
The 2024 Four Nations project started with a residency in January 2024, where the chosen artists from all four nations got to network and develop their creative ideas with guidance from leading mentors and the festival programmers.
The Four Nations Outdoor Arts Commissions 2024 are supported by Arts Council of Wales, Creative Scotland, Articulation, the Arts Council of Ireland, Outdoor Arts UK and ISACS.
