Location: This role can be based at any one of the Arts Council of Wales offices in Cardiff, Colwyn Bay or Carmarthen.  We are currently working in a hybrid way.

Our benefits include 30 days annual leave, 2.5 privilege days, flexible working hours/pattern, cycle to work scheme and a final salary pension (6%).

About this role

The Head of Theatre, Performing Arts and Touring is a strategic leadership role dedicated to advancing Wales’s theatre and performing arts sectors. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Arts, you will lead the implementation of the 2025 English Language Theatre Review recommendations, driving innovative programming, touring models, and partnerships. You will champion Welsh talent nationally and internationally, develop sustainable frameworks, and embed cross-cutting priorities including the Welsh language, climate action, and diversity and inclusion.

About you

We are seeking an experienced theatre and performing arts leader with a strong background in production, programming, and sector development. You have a proven ability to build resilient, diverse creative ecosystems and navigate complex partnerships across venues and cultural organisations. Passionate about elevating Welsh performing arts, you bring strategic vision, deep sector knowledge, and a commitment to inclusivity, sustainability, and artistic excellence.

Welsh language

The position of Head of Theatre, Performing Arts & Touring is Welsh essential. You will need to be able to communicate in both English and Welsh in meetings, individually and in public. We are looking for an individual who understands the culture of Wales; the diverse relationship of the people of Wales with the Welsh language and who is committed to ensuring a progressive use of Welsh linguistically and culturally within the Arts Council and the wider sector. Everyone's story with the language is different and we recognise that Welsh language confidence levels vary from person to person.
