Staff and Council members today paid warm tribute to Arts Council of Wales’ outgoing Chair, Dr Phil George, and expressed their sincerest thanks for his service which extends back to April 2016. His term as Chair comes to an end 31 March 2023.

Commenting today, Kate Eden, Arts Council of Wales Deputy Chair said:

“Dr Phil George has been an outstanding Chair for the Arts Council of Wales as well as being a superb ambassador for the whole arts sector in Wales. He has been a wonderful advocate for individual companies and arts forms as well as emphasising the need to be more diverse and inclusive.

“His contribution and legacy will continue for many years and we are most grateful to him for his significant work this past seven years. He leaves firm foundations for his successor to build upon.”

Dafydd Rhys, Chief Executive Arts Council of Wales said:

“Phil has been a great chair of Council and a positive encourager for our staff, who will miss him greatly. He has also been tireless in his work for the arts in Wales and never missed an opportunity to talk about the work being done across the sector by the Council, nor to extoll the virtues of arts organisations and individual arts practitioners in all parts of Wales. We are deeply grateful for all he has done for the arts in Wales and wish him well as he now steps down from this role.”
