RaD - Dance Artist Residency Programme, Summer 2024.

RaD is a residency programme focusing on community engagement whilst nurturing the talents of dance artists living, working or with a desire to work in Powys.

AT ITS HEART

RaD is all about engaging and collaborating with 3 specific groups to create new models of community dance practice that could be scaled and developed into new areas of work for Impelo in partnership with dance artists.

The 3 groups are;

  • Older adults
  • Under 4’s
  • Disabled and Neurodiverse adults

With the recent loss of core funding we know we risk losing our freelance dance associates to the area and the profession, their creativity, passion and skills are at the heart of the project and all we do, we are curious to explore how we might work together in the future.

The programme aims:

  • Map, scale, test and develop new strands of work with dance artists
  • To raise awareness of the community dance landscape in Powys and to develop the ecology through exploring new models of collaborative practice with dance artists in Powys

How it will work:

  • We will work with 9 dance artists between June and August within the 3 aforementioned groups.
  • All dancers will be supported by Impelo through a project manager and a dance artist.
  • 3 dance artists have been pre-selected based on previous work for the company, 3 dance artists have been selected through Y Nyth (our network of dancers living and working in Powys) and 3 dance artists will be selected as part of this open call.

What’s the offer?

  • Between 6 - 10 days residency in a location in Powys close to you.
  • a range of mentoring, shared learning and CPD opportunities
  • Time to explore, research and possibly test
  • Working closely alongside Impelo to create relevant and meaningful work

If you’d like more info about the project, have a disability and/or D/deaf access support required in order to apply, or have any questions/queries, please get in touch jemma@impelo.org.uk and we can arrange a chat/text over the phone or a video call.

Diversity in all its forms makes this and all our projects stronger and we positively encourage deaf and disabled people, African Diaspora people, South East and South Asian people, or people from other ethnically diverse backgrounds to apply.

  • We particularly welcome applications from currently underrepresented dance practitioners deaf, disabled, neurodivergent, Welsh speakers and POC (and we understand and appreciate that these dancers may not have come through traditional dance training routes);
  • Dancers who can demonstrate how RaD will benefit them in developing their practice;
  • Dancers who are ambitious to challenge themselves, their collaborators and us;
  • We especially encourage applications from people who come from a background that is under-represented in dance.
