Open Call for Artists, Creatives, Performers and Activists
Blackness is boundless and infinite, what would you bathe in light so we may dance and celebrate together?
National Museum Cardiff and Artes Mundi are excited to announce: Lates: PITCH BLACK, a creative interrogation into the impact of British Empire on Black communities and their histories. We want to celebrate Black People in Wales and their profoundly positive contributions to society.
We are inviting artists with unique and collaborative outlooks to contribute to this exciting immersive, interactive and multi-art form event. Five artists will be selected to work with curation and content lead, Umulkhayr Mohamed. We want to hear from people who are both unafraid to challenge accepted narratives and excited by the idea of working with the Lates team as well as curators from the museum and Artes Mundi.
This call is open to artists, creatives, performers and activists working in any medium. Anyone with ideas can apply, either as an individual or as a collective. While we want to ensure a number of the selected artists are young and emerging, we would equally encourage and consider submissions from artists and creatives of any age. We are particularly interested in those who have a personal connection to Black history.
Lates: PITCH BLACK presents a unique opportunity to make bold new work. We are particularly interested in proposals that relate to, question or play with the museum’s collections and/or the themes of the Artes Mundi 9 artists’ work. We have highlighted a few objects, artworks and themes you may choose to reference in your proposals but also to serve as a source of inspiration, these can be found in the research document here. We are also welcoming proposals that relate to other aspects of Black history and experience.
