We’re very excited to announce that our weekly term time community classes are back! Starting from the 13th & 14th October, we’ll be holding classes for a range of ages and abilities at Elympia Gym, Ely and Butetown Community Centre. Contact us to secure your space.
The safety of our tutors and students is our top priority, we’re working hard to ensure that our safety precautions are rigorous and adhere to government guidelines. If you have any questions about attending a class, please contact us - we’re happy to help.
Highlights - Carnival Celebrations
We recently celebrated all things carnival! From delving into its rich history right here in Cardiff, to curating our own experience for this year’s Notting Hill Carnival, to performing with June Campbell-Davies as part of this year’s Butetown Carnival. Despite in-person events being cancelled, we still brought the vibes and celebrated the beauty of Afro Caribbean culture. We invited you to share what Carnival means to you, and here are some of our favourite submissions:
“Carnival represents Black joy.”
“Carnival for me is everything you can ask for – unity, love & music.”
“For me, it’s all about connecting with and celebrating my heritage.”
Showcasing Welsh Creatives & Activists
We recently platformed a selection of Welsh Female Creatives: Activism Through Artistic Practices, showcasing some of Wales’ finest talent that are highlighting issues and challenging representations through art – from writers to podcasters to journalists. Click here to view the full list, we can't wait to see what they get up to next!
Black History is Welsh History
Black history should be embedded in our curriculum, media & museums throughout the year, not just for October. The history of Black people in Wales is often marginalised, though Wales’ Black communities are some of the oldest in the UK. Our history is rich and deserving of more than just a month of recognition.
Check out our Social Media channels this month to continue celebrating Black joy, and the legacies of those that have paved the way for us today. Celebrate with us - we invite you to share your family history, memories & thoughts on Black history in Wales throughout October.
