Small World Theatre introduces 2D puppet characters to its new Digital Stage launching on 13/2/21 with a cabaret show. Arts organisation and community venue, Small World Theatre, announced plans in October to launch an online programme after receiving funding from The Arts Council of Wales. Since then, the company has explored and experimented with new ground-breaking digital techniques to bring their puppets to life.

The Digital Stage will be Small World Theatre's platform to present their work. It will include story time for children, intimate gigs, cabaret shows and more besides. "Until now we haven't been able to offer digital performances" said Bill Hamblett, artistic director "but by collaborating with local artists and associates and learning new digital skills, we have a small, brilliant team who can produce and present events online from our venue."

Small World Theatre recently launched a fundraising page through Localgiving to raise funds for the future. The staff has been overwhelmed by local support and generous donations. "It is so inspiring to know that our work is valued in the community," said Sam Vicary, marketing manager. "It is also exciting that we can still entertain our audience and earn a place in peoples’ homes through the Digital Stage." Like so many artists, Small World Theatre recognises that there's opportunity here to broaden audiences in ways that were not possible before. The company has joined hundreds of Welsh artists on amam.cymru, the new digital platform showcasing the best of Wales’ creative sector.

Book your ticket and tune in on 13/2/21 at 8pm for the first of a series of online cabarets to welcome old friends and new to the stage. Introducing your 2D puppet host for the evening ‘Beyond Compere’ live from the venue. Seriously Good Magic‘s show is streamed from on board ‘Noctiluca’ in Tenerife.  Jess Allen and Hannah Darby have created dazzling aerial shows, performing them at Small World Theatre for this event. The headline act, Marty O'Reilly, is beamed to you from Santa Cruz.

Marty O’Reilly is the front man for the incredible Marty O’Reilly and the Old Soul Orchestra. Regulars will know that he was the next event at Small World Theatre before covid-19 closed the country. Marty plays with the conviction of a veteran Chicago blues man; straight from the heart and weaving songs into medleys. His guitar attack is fierce, he beats strings and rapid strums with furious note runs. He speaks to us about his life in California right now and shares his thoughts between songs. Tickets on sale up to the event on the website smallworld.org.uk.
