Would you like to help lead an energetic, exciting arts organisation delivering Art as Social Change in west Wales? Are you passionate about the arts? Are you Welsh Speaking or from the BAME community? Do you have a finance background, people management skills or experience of working in the arts? If so then SPAN would like to hear from you. For further information and an application form for Board membership please go to the SPAN website: www.span-arts.org.uk  or if you would like to speak to someone informally before applying please contact the Chairperson Cathy Davies at cathyfronfarm@gmail.com

Span Arts is seeking to recruit new Board members to its Trustee Board. SPAN is a vibrant forward-looking community arts charity which aims to deliver high quality arts projects and events to the people of west Wales. Based in Narberth, since lockdown Span has continued to operate online, with staff working from home, using digital technology to enable us to continue to arts experiences – from online theatre like Theatr Soffa to online music gigs and The Kindness Project – SPAN is committed to helping people feel connected,  having fun and combatting loneliness and social isolation.

The Board is responsible for the overall strategic direction of SPAN, with day to day management responsibility delegated to the Director and her staff team. We have an existing Board of 10 members, with good local representation and management, strategic, marketing, and I.T. skills, but a number of Board members intend to stand down at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting so we are looking to recruit to fill these places. Board members act in a voluntary capacity and are unpaid but can claim travel expenses. Meetings are held every two months, currently online through Zoom, and Board members are also expected to attend an annual Away Day and the Annual General Meeting, as well as attending and supporting SPAN’s many projects and events.

We wish in particular to expand the diversity of the Board, and are looking especially for Welsh speakers and people from the BAME community to join us. We are also interested in recruiting members with the following skills:

  • Leadership, strategic management and change management skills
  • Good people and negotiating skills and ability to work cooperatively with others for the good of the charity
  • Experience of working in a senior position in the arts, finance, business, or not-for-profit sector
  • Knowledge and experience of finance, including charity finances
  • Experience of working in the arts sector, especially arts management
  • Experience of human resources management
